PATNA: The Nitish Kumar cabinet on Monday gave its nod to certain amendments to the land classification rules for registration purposes.

According to official sources, the amendments will do away with the category of ‘developing land’, which basically meant a piece of land with the potential of being used as a residential land. Moreover, now the land’s minimum value register will be calculated on the basis of its existing usage.

“Lands are classified in seven categories in rural areas and in six categories in urban areas. In Patna, land classification is based on the master plan. The amendments seek to bring uniformity in land classification across the state and resolve the disparities in land acquisition rates,” principal secretary (cabinet secretariat) Brijesh Mehrotra told reporters after the cabinet meet that approved the amendments.
